What Does TIFNY Need To Run?

You must be running Windows 95, 98, ME, NT 4.0, 2000, OR XP
MS Internet Explorer 4.0+ or greater.
A connection to the Internet. TIFNY supports modem connections as well as high speed Internet connections including Cable Modems, DSL, ISDN, T1, and LAN.
An NNTP (News) server. This is a basic service provided by most Internet Service Providers.

What Files Should I Download?
To install TIFNY 5 you need to download our full setup package: tifny50.exe.

How Do I Run TIFNY's Installation programs?
All of our installation programs are fully automated. Simply download the file and then run it from your Window's Start Menu by choosing Run and typing the file name. Or just double click on the downloaded file from Window's explorer.

If you encounter errors the first time you run TIFNY, you maybe missing or have an older than required version of a system file required to run TIFNY. Because most systems have update to date versions of these files, they are not included in full setup package. Download tifnysys.exe (list of installed files), then reboot your system and re-run tifny50.exe

What are the Common Installation Problems?

You get the error SHDOCVW incorrectly registered or missing after installing the latest version of TIFNY.
The lastest TIFNY requires that you have MS Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher installed on your system.

Download the latest version of Internet Explorer from Microsoft

You get an error message similar to one of the following FLP32X20.OCX not correctly registered, Component FXIMG50G.OCX not correctly registered: file is missing or invalid, EMEDIT32.OCX' not correctly registered: file is missing or invalid. Or the when you start TIFNY, you get the error This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down

You're missing or have an older than required version of a system file required to run TIFNY. Since most systems have update to date versions of these files, they are not included in full setup package.

Download tifnysys.exe . (List of installed files).
Run tifnysys.exe.
Reboot your system.
Run the full TIFNY 5 setup again.

If you still see the error Component FXIMG50G.OCX not correctly registered: file is missing or invalid, Delete or rename the file PICN20.DLL from your system. (To locate PICN20.DLL on your system, select Find then Files and Folders from your Windows Start menu. Make sure (C:) is selected in Look in: and end PICN20.DLL in Named, then press Find Now.) Then run the full TIFNY setup package again.

TIFNY doesn't appear to start. Look in the directory where installed TIFNY for a file called tifny.log. Open it with wordpad or any other text editor. If you see the error message The Jet VBA file (VBAJET.dll for 16-bit versions, or VBAJET32.dll for 32-bit versions) failed to initialize when called. This problem is caused by mismatched system files.

Locate the copy of VBAJET32.DLL on your system. (Select Find then Files and Folders from your Windows Start menu. Make sure (C:) is selected in Look in: and end VBAJET32.DLL in Named, then press Find Now.) And rename or delete this file. The rerun the full TIFNY setup package.
If this doesn't solve the problem. Delete or rename MFC42.DLL and MSVCRT.DLL from your system, then download and install tifnysys.exe

You did not close all other applications before running the installation and some files where not installed.

Close all other applications including virus scanners and screen savers.
Rerun the installation.

Your download was corrupt or incomplete. If this is the case, the installation will not run at all.

Redownload the corrupted file.

You don't have enough available hard drive space on your main drive(for most PC's this is your C drive).

Even if you're not installing TIFNY on your C drive, you need a minimum amount of available space on your C drive for system files to be copied.
